Everyone knows that there’s a dress code for the bride, the groom and of course parents and the wedding party. But, unless it’s a Black Tie event...did you know that there is a dress code for guests. My guess is most guests know this...but just in case...here’s a list of fashion faux pas to avoid.
1. Something White: Reserve this shade, including all shades of beige and champagne for the bride. Even if the bride chooses something more trendy than traditional, think twice about donning something white. In fact fashion aficionados suggest finding out what color the moms and maids are wearing and steering clear of that color too.
2. A Deviation From The Dress Code: If a midday wedding think summer sundress for the ladies and khakis and a nice shirt (even a polo) for the gents. For evening affairs think suits for men and evening wear for the ladies. Make your style respectful not only of the venue and the event but also of the couple and their religious ideologies and beliefs.
3. Avoid Being Fashionably Flashy: Remember, while it’s perfectly posh to dress for the occasion and step up your style, keep in mind, that the bride and groom, NOT YOU should be the center of attention. Think sexy but classy and sophisticated....after all good taste never goes out of style.
4. Skimpy and Skinny Selections: Revealing a little skin may be suitable, especially for evening celebrations, keeping in mind that there’s a fine line between sexy and trashy and you want to dress for the occasion. Again, you are there to support the bride and NOT draw (negative) attention to yourself...so, if you’d wear it to a bar, you probably shouldn’t wear it to a wedding.
5. Sky High Heels: Yes, you DO want to step out in style...but you also want to be comfortable since you are attending a party and there’s likely to be plenty of dancing. Think kitten heels or cute, fashionable flats...especially if you are not a high heel type of gal...or if you don’t plan on doing much sitting down.
